Not Her Again

Sep 4, 2018

In the late '90s, Julia needed to mix it up. Her romantic comedies were box office juggernauts, but she needed something more. After all, she didn't get into acting to pretend to love Dermot Mulroney. She needed an Oscar.

Stepmom was not the film that would help Julia achieve her goal, but it got her on the path to Oscar glory. It also acclimated audiences to the idea that Julia could convincingly play a mother. In 2000, Julia landed her Oscar vehicle: Erin Brockovich, the true story of a hard-working legal assistant trying to take down a corporation for polluting the water. Big speeches! Female empowerment! A background role for Aaron Eckhart! Erin Brockovich had it all, and in March 2001, Julia marched up the steps of the Shrine Auditorium to collect her Oscar.

Join us as we discuss Julia's chemistry with Ed Harris, whether Stepmom would be better if it were about lesbians, and the much-debated Roberts v. Burstyn Oscar showdown.

Hosted by Michael (@cateblanchetttt), with Kevin Jacobsen (@kevin_jacobsen) and Drew Murray (@drew_murray12). Please let us know your thoughts on the new miniseries by leaving us a review on iTunes!
